Contour – Lime planning ruleset applications

Today’s update to Contour lime planning helps users to quickly and easily create precise zone based lime applications using an RB209* derived ruleset, incorporating liming factor and product neutralising value.

Here’s how:

  • Lime application rates are calculated for each zone using RB209 liming factor and product neutralising value, to ensure that application rates are precise and accurate.
  • Product neutralising value is factored into ruleset applications with rates adjusted accordingly.
  • Liming factor is based on cropping and topsoil texture. If no cropping or topsoil texture data are available, default values of “arable” and “clay and clay loams” are used. Cropping and topsoil texture can be updated from the Cropping and Maps & analysis pages respectively.
  • Topsoil texture maps can be viewed within lime planning, so that the data used for ruleset applications are easily accessible.
  • Ruleset application rates are reduced for granular products to account for increased reactivity. Granular lime applications are designed to be used as a buffer in between bulk lime applications and are not a replacement for bulk lime applications.
Please note:

  • Only new plans will use topsoil texture for ruleset applications. If you use a ruleset application in an existing lime plan created before 11/04/24, then the default “clay & clay loams” will be used.
  • Ruleset applications use the topsoil textures set when the plan is created. If the topsoil texture is updated after plan creation, the ruleset will continue to use the old soil type.

*Lime ruleset calculations are based on the lime recommendations in RB209 Section 1 pg 13-14.

We have additionally made a number of small updates to enhance user experience by improving navigation, usability, and performance:

  • Updated lime planning, edit zone rates & add polygons functionality to prevent scenarios where users could get stuck.
  • Fixed issue where some files could not be downloaded due to unsupported characters in filenames.
  • Updated seed planning file downloads, to prevent issues where the files could get stuck in pending state.

Log in to Contour to check out the updates today, and please send any feedback you may have to info@digital.originenterprises.com to help us keep improving.
